MYSTIC CHÂTEAU ACRES
What's in a name?
We realized our dream to own our own farm and bring the horses home in September 1998. It is one of the most satisfying accomplishments of our lives and we wanted to choose a name that would be worthy of our feelings for the place.
Mystic has it's origins in a few different aspects of our lives. First, the mystery of finding the breed of horse I fell in love with back in 1986. Second, the constant explanations to explain to people the breeding of the mysterious horses I brought to New York. Third, it would make a great herd name! Fourth, the need to find a farm that included about 30 acres of rolling hills, yet a vast flat area to support a riding ring and a small ranch style house rather than a huge old farmhouse within 35 miles of both of our places of employment; a mystery that took 3 years to solve. Fifth, considering the condition of the place when we found it and the amount of money it took to purchase it - we wondered - Where's the castle?
That brings us to Château, which depicts the breed's French heritage and the missing castle Les Chevaux Canadiens surely should have! But, also has roots in my husband's hometown, Chateaugay, NY, and our desire to make our home our "happy castle" where we could find refuge from the daily struggles and frustrations of our working lives. And, of course there is the connection to Exposition Pont-Château, where I located Le Cheval Canadien breeders making the connections I needed to purchase the horses that caused us to desire a farm of our own in the first place.
Now, why "Acres" instead of stable, farm, ranch, plantation (okay, I know I'm not far enough south for that one!)? We have no desire to board horses as we are enjoying our privacy - so stable, so often connected with "boarding stable" didn't work. Farm didn't work because as much as I love animals I'm committed to keeping only a couple of dogs, a cat or two and my horses (which I think 3 is a nice number but maybe 4 would be okay, too!). And, that doesn't validate the word farm in this area! Ranch was too western sounding for the Northeast. And, we did have 30 ACRES of rolling hills which was one of our most important qualifications for choosing the place!
Guess there can be a lot in a name! Hope you enjoyed the story!
We are located in the Central New York state, about 30 minutes southeast of Syracuse, NY. We do not have Canadian Horses for sale, but would be pleased to introduce interested persons to the breed through our horses and engage in conversation about this magnificent rare breed of horse.
